SBB's newest conference on the calendar- SBB Steel Markets Middle East - was a great success. The Middle East is one of the world’s fastest-growing steel markets. Compared with world steel demand growth of 8% last year, consumption in the Middle East increased by more than 10% - this was a bigger increase than China! | |

| Projections by the International Iron & Steel Institute are that the region’s steel demand will continue to outpace the world average – rising by 8-9% per year in both 2007 and 2008. The prospect of strong and growing demand has prompted numerous projects in the region to expand existing steel production capacities and build new plants. Flat, long and tubular products are all receiving new investments. But the region still seems likely to remain a substantial importer of steel. |
